Honma golf clubs are the most expensive on the market, and they appeal to an exclusive clientele. A full set of their Beres clubs can retail for over $50,000. But it’s not just the name recognition that makes these clubs so valuable. Honma uses expensive materials like carbon fiber to give its handmade clubs the extra edge. It's one of the only manufacturers that makes its shafts in-house and assembles the entire club, from conception to testing, on-site.

@travis hagen Think about the JDM market. Japanese focus too much on technology improvement for UX and innovation instead of thinking in commercialization and profit. Its why lot of their products end up becoming luxury goods because they have to target upper market in smaller segments. Explains why their products and services are less popular after the digital smart phone era

@Houston Skywatch You should understand the culture. The reason why eastern asia market is popular for luxurious goods is due to their outer presentation culture. It becomes more vital in business encounters. You dress and drive stuff that is actually out of your spending if spent rationally. But apparently it shows confidence and wealth which drives positives emotions to do business together. Plus they believe you need to spend money for more money to come

you know as someone that knows golf equipment looking at this, really makes me dislike how exaggerated everything sounds. Every golf nerd knows how the epoxy/adhesive works. They are not gonna let it dry.. and there are few mins of room for error in there, if you are a person in the industry, you won't even say something like "countless hours of work will be wasted on a single golf club" over epoxy issues.. it's just absurd. I use to like the "so expensive" topic by BI, but for the first time they made a video on something that I know, and I just want to point out how ridiculous it sounds...

It's a simple fact yes they are high quality and made very very well. With that said the only reason why they cost that much is because people will pay that much it's that simple that's why things are expensive most of the time yes high quality materials and craftsmanship for sure I know add value but at the heart and base of it all is what will and what are people willing to pay if they want and like something people will pay anything. It's been proven and shown time and time again if you make it they will buy supply demand high end low end people will pay.

Unfortunately this amounts to building a decent club slowly, putting some fancy shit on it and then upping the price. As a tool, which is what golf clubs are, they do not necessarily perform better (and in some cases perform worse) than the other big brands. Put as much gold on the club as possible. Japan is extremely limited in resources, so perfectionism, even over the top, is the only way to go. Crafting process ,so painstaking and ritualistic, stems, to an extent, from the shortage and thrift. Hence lots of steps and high costs. And of cause a lot of "Japanese cultural myths" to make it all sellable for the price.

By hand shaping the drivers and adding paintings to the back of the "cavity backed" irons? Filing the bounce of the irons down by hand makes the better? Copying modern cutting edge designers doesn't mean it's better. Why don't PGA pros use these to give them an advantage?

Some of them actually do, but of course it wouldn't be the beres series but the TW series. As to the clubs that pros use, that is basically only a matter of dndorsement deals. They’re so expensive because in Asian culture golf is not a sport for the genera population, it’s a game of status symbol. It costs hundreds to play a round which creates exclusivity and leaves the rich only playing. Then these super expensive gold clubs allow you to show wealth within the groups of wealthy playing. There’s a huge reason not one single tour player plays these clubs.. they’re not made to be played, they’re made to show off

I still have their early 90s 3 wood with Honma's own 4 star Titanium Carbon shaft it still gives the best feeling and feedback out of any club in my bag. Makes latest Titleist woods felt like tinny crap at impact. Their Hiro Honma 708 LB irons are great as well light as a feather yet impaxt was very crisp and responsive dead easy to launch them high and my dad still games with them to this day. They're simply handed down clubs from my mom's (she works as sales manager at a private golf club) previous Japanese golf members who retired and leave their bags full of golf clubs with her when they travel back to Japan to visit their family and then on their way back they bought a whole new set every year.

So dumb. I have a set of 300 dollar clubs I bought ten years ago and have a 4 handicap. It's not the clubs it's the player. I always beat this one guy who always has the latest and best and I won so much money off of him he bought me a car. When I play for money I'm a little better than a 4 handicap, lol.
