Agar grew abundantly in South India and is mentioned in ancient Tamil literature which is more than 2000years old. It was abundantly exported to Europe via Arabian trade routes and it is recorded in Tamil literature. I hope some credit is given to wide use of Agar in every household in ancient days, in day to day perfuming of households and went to North India from here so got mentioned in Sanskrit literature 1600 years back, if it is verifiable!

I wholeheartedly agree with giving ancient households credit because traditions are learned and passed on and it seems that practices get funneled into one channel of transmission and claimed especially by the major religions when in fact they are sharing from the same stream and claiming an erroneous exclusivity to what human cultures have expressed and exchanged and passed down for millennia.

This video is very informative because it documents the processes how the essential oils are obtained. It is fascinating. However, I am saddened by the fact that human’s need for self satisfaction and greed as well as a way of finding ways to sustain one’s livelihood may in turn cause the demise of some of these precious trees.

Most of the wild trees have disappeared in most countries but this does not mean that the demise of this precious material, because whilst the wild stuff has depleted people also have been farming Aquilera tree for decades and decades. The best method in my opinion of farming Aquilera trees is to use Permaculture in order to give the tree the closest natural environment setting.

@boxfox reyes You're comparing plants that are being grown to make a product, rather than what a lot of these companies/people are doing which is just harvesting existing trees without replacing what they take. When they replant more trees than they harvest, then your argument makes sense. However the video states this isn't happening hence why they're going extinct.

The sandalwood story is sad one in south India , those who know the real story can relate , the government banned private growers from growing the tree , so the wood became very scarce, this caused the price to rise and the illegal smuggling industry grew . today the illegal industry is so big and dangerous that private growers don't want to risk their lives growing this tree. If you search the net even well protected goverment buildings are not able to protect this tree from smugglers. Recently the government has opened the market for private growers ,but it's too late now . No one want to risk it and security is a problem . So this is how the Indian government killed an entire industry and will drive the tree to extinction.

Isn't it interesting that in a these 3 cases, it is only when the west gain interest in a product, that it becomes an unsustainable and threatened plant and production. Like with so many other things. That said all 3 of these plants aren't just there for beautiful scents. They offer extremely powerful healing properties, especially frankincense. It is of course for the scent that South East Asia produced and consumed them, but it is very much also for their healing properties that they were harvested, produced and used. These are a part of old knowledge.

A small example is the Mysore sandalwood soap and it easily, and I mean EASILY, beats a lot of international soap brands and that's just one category of products that it is used in, but I guess some of you will always CHOOSE to remain ignorant of things outside the west. Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20 Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state. “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.) Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.) Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894) The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. Daniel 7:25 says “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” The Popes of Rome spoke against Elohim and proclaimed to be God. They reigned for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD. during which they caused tens of millions of saints to be killed. The Pope’s title is Vicar of Christ, which in Latin is ‘Vicarius Filii Dei’, and equates numerically to the number 666

But those ripe buds will start blooming in the evening, and fully bloomed at night. And start to wither the next day. Agarwood (gaharu), sandalwood (cendana) and jasmine sambac (melati) , we had those in indonesia. Wild agarwood are hard to find, even the man made are still expensive. Sandalwood itself are protected by law, if you chop 1, you'll be fined heavily. And yes jasmine sambac are one of the most fragrance flowers in Indonesia.. I have all these absolutes and essential oils heavily diluted in jojoba oil as I make my own skincare and perfume for personal use and to gift to people. I try my best to source my oils from sustainable sources, but I can only go by what the companies I purchase from tell me. The sandalwood I'm using at the moment comes from New Caledonia. Australian sandalwood has an unpleasant fragrance at least to me and it's very expensive so I don't buy it. I think it's more for medicinal use. I bought a small amount of oud as I have never smelt it before, so if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be wasting my money. Of course, sniffing a single scent means nothing. It's when they're combined with other scents that you get the rounded perfume. I used only a tiny amount of oud in my last perfume combining it with other bases and middle notes such as jasmine. The oud grounded the fragrance and gave it long lasting properties. It smells divine, even if I say so myself. Most commercial perfumers use synthetics or a combination of natural and synthetic, but you can't improve on nature. I might sound like I know what I'm doing but I'm a real novice. Rather than snorting cocaine, these natural essences are my drug of choice.

Hey, I'm a hobby perfumer. If you want to create something that would match the quality of departement store perfume expect to invest $1000 for aromachemicals and oils, $50-2000 dollar in equipement. And be patient, perfumery is much harder than painting/playing piano etc. Be CAREFUL. Most ingredients in perfume are highly toxic in their pure concentration (undiluted) Some popular citric oils can bite through glass, and also through skin of course. If you want to save money I highly suggest you do not pick up this craft. If you're truly passionate about scent and have enough money, go for it! Side note: If you're looking for a specific type of fragrance maybe I can help. I smelt at least 800 in my life.

I prefer agarwood than sandalwood, because in my country sandalwood has been a smell that connect to other religion and other ethnic group, we can smell it everywhere here so it's not really a unique scent in my country, but Agarwood smell is devine for us, we also have Agarwood and sandalwood in our jungle but Agarwood is more valuable and expensive.

Why are the same people who claim to be into sustainability and "all natural" so invested in essential oils? It's not "natural" and production is incredibly damaging to the environment. From unsustainable harvesting threatening extinction of species to the amount of heat and water needed for extraction and ending in even more impact from transport there's negatives in every aspect.

There’s wild oud (the most expensive), plantation oud (like the Vietnamese one in the video), and synthetic oud, produced by oil companies, and most frequently found in perfumes. In the video, artificial oud is most likely referring to plantation oud. I wish they’d do a better job researching their topics. None of the examples given (perfume examples) are good examples

Indian jasmine; the fragtance of Home or"heaven", quite literally for me. I have had many memories from previous lives, going back to before this creation. My sometimes' home in "heaven", for want of a better word, has all the best elements of all those lives. I've had several visions or out of body experiences; walking down through the fields towards my spirit 'home. Every sense is heightened. The light is the colour of amber and indian' jasmine hangs gently in the "air".

AFAIK, Sandalwood consumes high amounts of water, so people are discouraged from planting it in order to limit the water usage. Since sandalwood is a luxury, this would take away the water from everyday needs and give it to something that's just fancy, but not vital.
