For everyone skeptical out there, yes, I’ve used Q-tips my whole life, and yes, I had problems. I had to go see a medical professional to remove my wax because of q-tips, and I swear being deaf of both ears for 3 weeks because of wax stuck in your ears sucks. Really.

I try to use a syringe 20 ml, it works (havent tried with the 60 ml one yet), can just buy at pharmacy cost around $2 (depends where u buy it) But u will need to soften the earwax in the ears 1st so that it totally works Either by simply wash your ears with some water (just getting a soak is enough), after it feels like it is soften then calmly syringe ur ears with some water (warm water - just heat quickly in microwave also can), cold water or normal temp water also works If u're unable to soften the earwax with water, then u'll have to buy the earwax softener at pharmacy & use that one (cost cheap maybe below $20), usually in the form of eardrop or spray - carefully drop / spray into ur ears (careful with the spray one not spray to ur eyes) until ur earwax soften enough Then repeat syringe until ur ears can hear again The 1st time i did it, it splashes almost all the earwax i find difficult to remove if using tools / fingers (super satisfying) This idea came when i go to the clinic in my u, they use this method (but with a 60ml syringe if not mistaken) At the time my left ears is inflamed, so it takes some time to get the earwax out but it works less painful than using the 6-7 metal tool stick

I've used q-tips for cleaning my ears for years (1x 1-2 weeks), never had any problems. The warning on the package is so they don't get sued if you ask me. If you clean your ears with a q-tip you scrape out the wax or just stick it to the q-tip by tipping the wax. When going in to your ear of course you don't touch the wall of your inner ear, that way you will push the wax in to your ear. And don't go too deep. I never clean my ears after showering, but on other times. Sometimes in the morning after waking up, when the wax is a bit softer/stickier.

Like collecting candy floss / cotton candy. Roll and press toward the sides. It's easier if you dampen the earbud with a couple of drops of plain old tapwater. Don't try to do something else at the same time e.g. sneezing. Once you got some wax, chuck it and grab a clean one.

So I’ve been doing it right this whole time 👏🏽and I learned it from my grandma to . When you’re in the shower grab some soap and wash behind your ears really good. And also a tip I learned on my own is to grab some more soap and wash inside of my ears everywhere and a lot of dirt and ear wax comes out . But my ears do get dirty fast and ear wax does come back in my ear fast and I want to find another way to clean my ear besides doing this .

Год назад

Using Q Tipps my whole life to clear the ear canal, i am 51 years old and never had any problems. In fact i can hear very good at this age I am always very carefully when using them to avoid any damage of the eardrums and i NEVER use them when somebody stands beside me moving around with his/her arms in the bathroom! Gently rotating the Q Tipp while inserting it very slow and for just a few milimeters .... after one rotation pulling it out and using the other clean side of the Q-Tipp stick. I never use a Q-Tipp head twice ! Always just making one full rotation, so i don´t push the wax inside. Never pushing the cotton head of the Q-Tipp too far inside .. just a few milimeters...so that i cannot see the cotton head in the mirror any more.. Thats far enough.. no risk in that dangerous position. Cleaning my ears take 2 - 3 Q-Tipps per ear ... acting very carefully and slowly until i cannot see any dirt/wax on the cottton head of the Q-Tipp any more. If you didn´t clean your ears for weeks, you should not do it the way described as there might be a lot of wax already inside the ear canal which will be pushed towards the eardrum.

2 or 3 years ago, before quarantine I got my first ear infection. It hurt like HELL. The sound of literally everything hurt so bad- from my own crying(it hurt that bad) to hearing the door open, etc. I don't know if this whole itchy ear thing started from that, but I think so because I don't remember my ears being uncontrollably itchy before then. I try using Q Tips often because they are literally the *only* thing I have to make the itchiness go way before it returns shortly. And Q Tips are horrible for me, as they literally make me go deaf. So yes, Q Tips are dangerous. You should also consider safer ways to use them if you are going to ignore safety precautions and use them anyway.

Try an ear spoon or something like that. Clean your ears first. If you don't have easy access to a medical professional(or visiting one costs way, way too much), you should probably buy an ear spoon. Use tissues to absorb the earwax-liquid-thingy-I-forgot-the-name-of.

50/50 mix of water and peroxide. use a nose syringe to put it in your ear. let sit for 30 seconds and rinse over and over with the nose syringe until the ear is flushed out. do it like once a month twice a month at most. Point the stream of water towards the sides of the ear to flush it out and not at the eardrum. you can do this in the shower or over a disposable cup. rinse your ears well after ever shower with just the shower head by letting your ear fill up and dumping it out a few times for maintenance.

I used to go to a doctor to cleansed my ear, in childhood I had difficulty in hearing(plus I know my ear is thin) molds kept piling up even after a few months from check-ups, I become to doubt myself even my parent and relatives thought I was such a careless child, even tho I made sure to use q-tips after shower. I had gone to doctors for multiple times to cleanse my ear, and seriously I thought that situation would be forever in my life. I am that person who double check her work, I'm very sensitive to dirt so I know it's not my fault that my turned out like that (which is gross to me) Then, I figured out to use my finger instead of Q-tips that made it more easier. I never get to go to doctors anymore. Now, who's really in the fault? Was it me? No. I realized it's the adult and professionals here in my place who suggested to use Q-tips after shower or often cleanses our ear with Q-tips such careless suggestions!

If someone's damaged their eardrum by sticking something in their ear, then they clearly weren't paying attention because anything that gets that far in is going to hurt like hell. I have a wax scraper with a little camera on the end and I can see how far into my ear I can go before something hurts. It's not up to my eardrum, that's for sure.

I have been cleaning my ears with q-tips since I was a little kid and not once did I ever hurt myself. Cleaning your ears with just water and soap can also lead to water getting stuck in your ear and lead to swimmers ear infection. It's no wonder I see so many people in our clinic getting their ears cleaned or having ear infections. It's really not that hard to clean your ears with q-tips without hurting yourself but then again maybe I'm underestimating human stupidity.

Somehow the first insightful thing on this I have heard. A lot of others just say "stop using q tips because bad" and don't offer any other advice. I started doing the water thing on my own a while ago but had no idea if it was good or bad. I stopped and I still use Q tips but it's not to clean my ears it's because sometimes it feels so good. Gonna start the water thing again now though

There’s a reason why we have a syringe at home that has a small pipe attached: for this. Our ears get clogged of their own accord, without using cotton buds, so when we seem to be going deaf, I basically blast the stuff out of my ears. It does the trick and it hasn’t done any damage, so maybe do something like that.

I once worked with a young doctor in USAF Med Corps, a mother of two children. While I practiced all the medical training that our profession required (I was more experienced), she would contradict all the medical advice I gave my patients. She would tell them it was no big deal sticking Q-tips into the ear canal. I retired from the profession 12 years ago, and I am very sure she didn't retire, but doesn't practice medicine anymore.

been cleaning my ears with "cotton bud" my whole life without issue, the trick is clean your ears everyday dont let the wax pile up or thicken up and the other trick is rotate the bud while slowly pushing inside your ears so the wax wont pushed inside deeper, well this may be applied only for those with "wet wax", but if you have a "dry wax" its better to ask someone to scoop your ear wax for you every week.

Vile people may be trolling him, but he is absolutely right. Putting ear canals in ear is dangerous. My own cousin who mindlessly for years did this, had to go through a major ear operation. Your ears are self cleaning. And yes while bathing just wash your ear by putting some water in it and then gently drying your ear with towel.

Now, and for the last 25+ years, I have been using hydrogen peroxide every day to remove any excessive wax and prevent infection. In Asia, we have a small metal stick about 7-8cm long with a spoon-looking head to remove these wax (which is called bobby pin or something idk, I stole it from people replies), with a flashlight and a skillful person, you can remove these wax pretty easily. Edit: in VietNam (not Vietnam, VietNam) these things were called "que/ cây móc ráy tai" which is technically translated to a stick that helps to remove ear-wax Edit2: ear pick Edit3: learn something new everyday

I’ve had a lot of ear infections growing up, leaving any water in your ear and going outside especially in winter will create some problems, I’ve not had anything like they used to be since I’ve always made sure my ears are dry, and I’m a woodworker by trade so I’m around a lot of dust and loud noises... saws, cutters and drills etc. My ears are sensitive I’ve had grommets in when very young not sure exactly why but my ears are both still not quite right and been noticeable the last 5 years and Have been through different phases of irritation, feeling blocked or that there about to clear themselves but never end up getting the relief I feel is always near, my hearing is as far as I know actually ok although some would disagree, if I cover my right ear my left is definitely the worse ican barely hear out of but right is more annoying verbally but works the best. I know I should go get looked at yet I’m hopeful being patient will work for now

I always wonder if it will still „push“ the wax deeper in you ear, if you use the q tip on an ear canal that is still moist from showering. The wax is so soft at that point. I just can‘t imagine that anything is being pushed in then.

2 дня назад
Y
Y

my experience telling me the q tip is smaller than the ear canal diameter, and if you lower your head to one side making the ear canal vertical to the ground level, then the q tip cannot push the small pieces of ear wax in simply because of gravity. However, the major disadvantage of q tip is that it keeps you digging your ear and damage your canal skin by abrasion, also the drum membrane piercing risk is there if you do not take care. Also, for big blocking ear wax, q tip cannot help, the doctors cannot directly dig it out either, usually, they need the help of weak alkaline water to soften it first.

The problem of you pushing the wax into the back of your ear isn't all that present when you generally have clean ears (either from washing them before or something) to begin with and clean them regularly (like me because I just use my headphones every day). Because in that case all wax just sticks to the q tip and everything gets out.

Do as I do. While in the shower I pour warm water in each ear with my head tilted. Allow it to stay in the ear for a minute. Do this for each ear three times. The wax loosens and drains put while in the shower.

I was practically deaf & no one educated me on how to clean my ears. Sorry, I’m traumatized for not having my ears cleaned, and I’m gonna keep using qtips to keep my ears minimal with wax.

I try to use a syringe 20 ml, it works (havent tried with the 60 ml one yet), can just buy at pharmacy cost around $2 (depends where u buy it) But u will need to soften the earwax in the ears 1st so that it totally works Either by simply wash your ears with some water (just getting a soak is enough), after it feels like it is soften then calmly syringe ur ears with some water (warm water - just heat quickly in microwave also can), cold water or normal temp water also works If u're unable to soften the earwax with water, then u'll have to buy the earwax softener at pharmacy & use that one (cost cheap maybe below $20), usually in the form of eardrop or spray - carefully drop / spray into ur ears (careful with the spray one not spray to ur eyes) until ur earwax soften enough Then repeat syringe until ur ears can hear again The 1st time i did it, it splashes almost all the earwax i find difficult to remove if using tools / fingers (super satisfying) This idea came when i go to the clinic in my u, they use this method (but with a 60ml syringe if not mistaken) Edit : at the time my left ears is inflamed, so it takes some time to get the earwax out but it works less painful than using the 6-7 metal tool The best would be to go to ear specialistit they'll use the vacuum one but cost around $300 one session

The biggest issue isn't that Q-tips shouldn't be used. It's that they're being used wrong. All you're supposed to do is insert and then sweep up the wax in a circular motion; not push it in. The "warning" label on the q-tip box literally instructs you how to use it. imo it's best to use right after a shower.

I was an MA at a primary care clinic. A nurse usually did the ear cleaning but honestly anyone could do this with a strong enough stomach. All we do is put a kidney basin (fancy term for a plastic cup) next to your ear and flush it with a saline solution syringe. I’ve seen the biggest nastiest ear wax clumps come out of peoples ears.

Here's how I clean my ears: I do use cotton swabs, but I don't stick the swab in my ear as far as other people. I just barely stick the swab in my ear canal only after taking a shower when the wax in my ears is watery. That's the easiest way to clean your ears. Just stop sticking the swab in so far.

First, get an earwax softener drops. Apply 3-4x/day for 5 days. Then, get a syringe and warm water. Aim inwards and upwards, flush with gentle pressure. Rinse and repeat until you can start hearing pictures. That’s what we do in outpatient clinics. Save yourself time and money (and our burden) from visits. Just make sure the ear is not infected/perforated(pain, redness, discharge). If it is, you’ll need antibiotics first. I’m a medical doctor.

I have small ear canals and doctors around here say they're not allowed to clean them for you. Which switched at some point as I had my ears cleaned for the first time by a doctor when I was 16 because I actually lost hearing in my right ear. Now I have a squeeze thing that kind of does the trick but it can take a few goes before anything comes out.
